STANDDARD MACHINE OPERATION PROCEDURE

For proper running and operation of machines, certain standards and procedures must be followed to maintain a safe secure working environment. Every personnel working for a company must follow the operation procedure of the company for maximum production and safety of others and himself/herself. The following are some of the standard operating procedure that should be followed for a safe working environment:
  1. Hard hat and safety shoes are required by all personnel working in certain section where equipments might follow and injure or hurt an individual. Also, the feet must be protected by wearing safety boots. People working at the electrical area are also supposed to wear had hats and safety boots. Working on energized electrical systems is highly discouraged. Safety boots which are designed for high voltages are recommended and hard hats (class B hard hats).
  2. Gloves. Gloves are highly recommended in areas where there is handling of hazardous chemicals. Also,respirators are required to prevent one from inhaling dangerous chemical fumes. Self Contained Breathing Apparatus are required in some cases where spilling of dangerous chemicals is eminent. Finally, goggles are required to protect the eye from dangerous splashes of chemicals.
  3. Lasers. Persons working in areas where laser radiations are high are expected to wear safety glasses to protect their eyes from dangerous lights from the lasers.
  4. machine tool use. Safety glasses are required for all machine use tools. Use of a diamond wheel require a full face shield and safety shoes.
  5. Machine of hazardous materials. Cutting, grinding or sanding requires use of a respirator with appropriate to formaldehyde if done without local drop ventilation.
  6. Working in noisy environment. Ear protective devices are required if one is working in a noisy environment to protect his or her ears from damage. Noise levels exceeding 80 decibels for over 8 hours are destructive to human ears hence it is highly encouraged that people working in noisy environments protect themselves by using ear gears.
  7. Radioactive materials. Working with unsealed radioactive materials which could have removable radioactivity requires use of lab coats and gloves. This will be specified by the Radiation Protection Standards.
  8. Welding. Use welding mask, aprons, gloves and respiratory protection equipment for protection.
  9. Fall protection equipment. Fall protection equipment is required as required by the job. Any person working at heights exceeding 6feets is expected to wear height protection safety devices.
