STANDARD PROCEDURE IN AN ELECTRICAL DRIVEN MACHINE

The use of electrical tools and equipment can sometimes present challenges to the operator or user of the tool or equipment. Because of not following the safety operating procedures, the users of these machines find themselves in problems. Below are some of the procedures that are supposed to be followed when using electrical equipment and tools.

  1. Only authorised and qualified personnel should be allowed to service or adjust any electrical machine.
  2. Never expose yourself or others to energized electrical circuits. No type of work , tests or adjustments is on energized circuits is permitted unless company authorization has been given and the work should be done by a qualified person in the field of electrical engineering.
  3. Ascertain that all electrical implements are in safe condition before using them.If you have any doubt or not sure about the safety of the equipment, report to the supervisor immediately and let the condition be checked by the electrical department.By so doing,you will protect yourself and other from danger.
4. Inspect the electrical equipment for the following before plugging in and using:

  • make sure there is an attached electrical inspection lebel dated within 6 months
  • ascertain that the electrical cord is free from cuts and abrasions through the outer insulation.
  • examine the male plug to be sure that the protective insulating disc is in proper position and that no prong is loose.
  • check for loose or virtually damaged parts , switches , shieldings, nuts and bolts before operating any machine.
  • check the receptacle before plugging in electrical cord. upon insertion of the cord if the receptacle is loose, immediately report to your supervisor.
OPERATION OF ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT


  1. Make sure that the male plug is properly inserted in the receptacle.
  2. Shut off the power supply if any shock sensation if felt while using the machine and report immediately to the supervisor.
  3. if an equipment is not operating, unplug it from power and immediately report to the supervisor.
  4. Never unplug equipment by pulling a cord. Turn off the switch and then pull the plug from the receptacle.
  5. Turn off all equipment before you leave your work area.
  6. When your work is done, recheck the equipment to see if it is ready for a job for the next operator.
  7. supervisors should ensure that all electrical equipment are forwarded to the electrical department for repair.
  8. supervisors should ensure that all employee understand the foregoing inspection and operating instructions.
